This past weekend wasn't the first time Morgan Willson stood on the top spot of the podium. She won two state titles in cross country, and also captured last year's 3200 meter dash.
"I just love running it and the feel of just running as far as I can, as fast as I can," says Willson, a senior at Colfax. "She works at it, she knows how to make adjustments," says Colfax distance coach, Jennifer Fulfs. "You can coach it, but some kids just have it, and she just has it."
This Valedictorian also has what it takes in the classroom, posting a 4.0 while balancing three varsity sports. "Everything I do I try to do the best that I can so it wasn't really hard to balance sports and school but it definitely was a challenge," says the senior. "She has a drive that I don't think I've ever seen before. She is just truly an unselfish and inspirational person," adds Fulfs.
"Colfax is so supportive - the whole community and everyone in general, so without them I know it wouldn't have been this much fun and it just wouldn't have been as great an experience as it has been. They're always pulling the whole way and I always know they're there supporting me," says Willson.
And just past the finish line is where you'll find Morgan supporting others. "When she turns around and gets done, the first thing she does is congratulate everybody that's coming through the line," says Fulfs.
"I know what they went through because we did the exact same thing so I know how hard it is for all of us, and how good it is for all of us, too, and how we just all enjoy running," Willson says.
Even atop the podium, she can't help but share it.
