Gonzaga assistant Ray Giacoletti will be named the new coach at Drake University on Thursday.

Giacoletti replaces Mark Phelps, who was fired after going 77-86 in five seasons.

Giacoletti was the head coach for the Eastern Washington Eagles, and the Utah Utes.  He was the coach of the Eagles for four seasons and in 2004 led Eastern to their only NCAA tournament appearance.

In his first season at Utah, Giacoletti led the Utes  to a 29-win season and a Sweet 16. But he was surprisingly fired in 2007, finishing with a 54-40 record in three seasons.

After Utah Giacoletti was hired on as an assistant coach under Mark Few at Gonzaga.
