Two of the best high school volleyball teams in the area squared off in North Spokane Thursday night, and the North Central and Central Valley football teams played down to the wire at Joe Albi Stadium.

In the Battle of the Bell match-up, 4A power Mead was too much for main rival and 3A power Mt. Spokane to handle, winning in straight sets. Senior Hannah Zalopany had 12 kills and three aces for the Panthers, who improved to 5-0 on the season. The 25-18, 25-11, 25-14 defeat was the first for Mt. Spokane, (4-1) this year.

On the gridiron, Central Valley held on for a 24-19 win over North Central. The Indians had trailed 24-7 at the beginning of the fourth quarter. CV's Austin Rehkow kicked a 52 yard field goal, the 20th of his career which sets a new Greater Spokane League record formerly held by another CV standout, Mike Hollis. CV improves to 3-1 with the win, North Central falls to 1-3.
