The GSL 4A/3A district track meet got off to a great start on Thursday evening at Spokane Falls Community College.
Shadle Park senior Nathan Weitz absolutely ran away with the boys 3A 3200. Entering the race, Weitz had run the 3rd fastest time in the state this season, about six seconds off the pace set by North Central sophomore Kai Wilmot who ran an 8:57.66. But Weitz finished well ahead of everyone, setting a new state best this season with a time of 8:56.84. That time is also a new GSL district meet record. Wilmot finished second at 9:15.61.
In the wheelchair 1600, Central Valley's Austin Pruitt set a personal best time of 3:47:54. Pruitt currently holds the fastest time in his class in the entire country in both the 100, and 200 wheelchair races.
The second and final day of the District meet is on Friday.
