Chiefs lose at Everett. Holmberg out
A three goal third period wasn't enough, as the Spokane Chiefs fell to the Everett Silvertips 6-5 Friday night in Everett. The Silvertips led 4-1 after one and 6-2 after two on their way to their 4th straight win, while the Chiefs suffered their second straight loss on their 4 game road trip.
Everett jumped out to a 2-0 lead just 7:50 into the contest. The Chiefs suffered a further blow when leading scorer Mitch Holmberg took a hit to the head midway through the first period and had to leave the contest. The Silvertips would extend the lead to 3-0 at 16:17 of the first, but Spokane would tally at 17:06 on Connor Chartier's first goal of the season from Reid Gow and Liam Stewart. Everett's Kole Bauml would come right back and score just 26 seconds after Chartier's goal to give Everett a three goal lead heading into the second period.
Spokane would cut the lead to 4-2 on Reid Gow's second goal of the year at 2:38 of the second period. Everett would get Bauml's second goal of the game 3:03 later to make it 5-2, and would tack on another goal at 13:50 to take a commanding 6-2 lead into the third. The Chiefs would score two goals just 39 seconds apart early in the third as Dylan Walchuk's tip in would cut the lead to 6-3. Todd Fiddler would score his 6th goal of the year to make it 6-4. Fiddler would then notch his second of the night and 7th of the season at 15:54 to bring Spokane within 6-5.
The Chiefs would pull goalie Garret Hugheson in the final minute and a half but would fail to get the equalizer. Hugheson relieved starter Eric Williams after Everett's 4th goal of the first period. Spokane outshot Everett 34-26 and would go 0-2 on the power play and 3-3 on the penalty kill. Spokane will finish their 4 game road trip at Tri City Saturday night at 7:05pm.
