Reid Petryk's penalty shot goal with 2:44 remaining lifted the Everett Silvertips to a 3-2 win over the Spokane Chiefs Friday night in Everett. Petryk scored two goals in the game as the Chiefs lost their third straight game, their longest losing streak of the season.
Everett jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a Josh Winquist goal at 13:39 of the first period. Petryk's first tally of the night came 1:50 into the second period on the Silvertips first shot of the stanza. The Chiefs Mike Aviani converted a Todd Fiddler pass at 6:09 of the second as he scored his 18th goal of the year on a backhander to cut the Everett lead to 2-1 after two. Spokane outshot Everett 13-5 in the period.
Spokane goalie Garret Hughson stopped a penalty shot from Winquist while Spokane was on the power play midway through the third period. The Chiefs then converted the power play chance when Blake Gal scored his 6th goal of the year on a rebound of a Fiddler shot at 12:13 of the third. Brenden Kichton also picked up an assist in his 300th career game as a Chief. Petryk would settle things though when he drew a penalty from defenseman Reid Gow on a breakaway chance and was awarded a penalty shot, which he converted on the forehand past Hughson.
Hughson turned aside 23 shots as the Chiefs outshot the Silvertips 35-26 in the game. Spokane was 1-4 on the power play and 2-2 on the penalty kill. Spokane will play game 3 of their 4 game road trip at Seattle Saturday night at 7:05pm.
