Boston Bruins coach Claude Julien has agreed to a multiyear extension, the team announced Tuesday.

Julien, 52, was entering the final year of a three-year extension he signed in 2009, but the Bruins avoided in any uncertainty in his final year of the contract by giving him an extension.

Terms of the deal were not released, but the Boston Herald said it is believed to be a three-year extension, which would take Julien through the 2015-016 season.

In his five seasons with the Bruins, Julien has compiled a 228-132-50 regular-season record. The Bruins won the Stanley Cup in 2011, but they lost in the opening round of the playoffs this past season.
