YAKIMA, Wash. -

Yakima will pay $25,000 to settle an open records lawsuit.

A Yakima County Superior Court judge ruled last month the city had violated the Public Records Act when it refused to give Arthur West a report on a police sergeant under investigation for his dealings with a prostitute.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports the case was moving to the penalty phase when the Olympia open records advocate agreed to the settlement.

City Attorney Jeff Cutter says the city was following the law at the time.
