PULLMAN, Wash. -

The Whitman County prosecutor has charged a WSU football player with robbery and assault, stemming from an assault and beer theft in Pullman this summer.

Logan Tago is a sophomore starting linebacker for the Cougars. Police say he and a group of men mugged a man and stole his case of beer in June. The victim suffered a concussion.

Tago is charged with second degree robbery, which is a class B felony, and fourth degree assault, a gross misdemeanor.

WSU Head Coach Mike Leach said Monday he hopes Tago will play Saturday against UCLA, though WSU policies may say otherwise. Leach said his players are innocent until proven guilty.

Tago is from American Samoa and has played in every game for the Cougars the last two seasons. He's recorded 12 tackles for the Cougs this fall, including a quarterback sack Saturday against Stanford.
