WINTHROP, Wash. -

Fire crews were quick to respond to the new Rising Eagle Road Fire that began Friday afternoon between Twisp and Winthrop.

It managed to burn 200 to 300 acres, destroying at least one home and possibly a second. Crews say they were able to get the worst of it under control, but evacuation orders of all levels are still in place as a precaution.

The fire is burning northwest toward Liberty Bell High School where the Carlton Complex Incident Command Post is located. The command post has been secured.

The Red Cross has set up two additional shelters for those displaced by evacuation orders. One is at the community center in Twisp, the other at the Community Church in Mazama.

Current evacuation orders are as follows:

Level 3

  • Twin Lakes Road to Wolf Creek Road
  • Sun Mountain Resort
  • Pearrygin Lake State Park

Level 2

  • Upper Bear Creek Road
  • East Chewuch Road to Boulder Creek

Level 1

  • Winthrop
  • Highway 20 from Twin Lakes Road to Winthrop

Right now the weather is partly cloudy with no wind, but temperatures are expected to rapidly rise again on Saturday.
