The teenage years can be turbulent and unpredictable, so when you come across a teen who has his stuff together it's refreshing.

Deon has a laid-back personality, a sweet smile and a good head on his shoulders.

He runs track and considers himself a proud Christian, and already has an eye on his future.

"I want to be a United States Marine," he said. "To serve the country and really get to know what it's like out there. Trying to make a difference I guess."

But he's not stopping with the military. Deon says he wants to take advantage of the GI Bill to go to college and study culinary arts or photography.

He's also looking forward to the upcoming school year.

"This year is like a new start for me. I'm going to try and make the best of it," he said.

But to truly be his best, Deon needs a supportive family. He would like other kids in the home and a family that's active.

"Maybe hikes or jogging or movies every once in a while," he said. "I don't want them to spoil me, but it would be nice to do something every once in a while."

Deon would also appreciate something he's never had before: two loving, caring parents.

"I would like to see what it is like to have both there, both influences and really see what it is like to someone to care for you, you know," he said.
