LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. -

A national home alarm company is one step closer to opening up its new call center in Liberty Lake.

On Thursday, dozens of job seekers attended a Vivint job fair in Liberty Lake, hoping to land one of 400 jobs the alarm company is filling.

Tim Burke has been unemployed for a year and a half and hopes Vivint will give him the break he needs.

"We heard it on the radio, came down and everyone here has been just awesome," Tim Burke said.

Not everyone, however, shares Burke's excitement.

According to the Better Business Bureau, more than 2,000 complaints have been filed against Vivint for deceptive sales tactics. And in five states have also filed lawsuits against the company.  Vivint settled the suits and in one case it paid out $125,000.

"They seem to deceive consumers into thinking they're getting free services, free installations or confusing the contracts so they're getting into situations they weren't really aware of what they were getting into," Chelsea Maguire with the BBB said.

Eric Patrick with Vivint said the company takes all complaints seriously and customer service is their top priority.

"We don't sell through pushy manipulative sales tactics," Eric Patrick said.

"We sell on value and these jobs are tela sales jobs.  They are not door to door type jobs.  And the only people we are going to communicate with are people who've shown interest in our product," he added.

Patrick said Vivint chose the Inland Northwest for its call center because of the people who live here.\

"We're looking for people who are highly energetic, highly motivated to be a part of something bigger than themselves," he added.

Job seekers said the complaints weren't a factor in whether or not they applied for a job at Vivint.

"It's about getting to work, taking care of family, taking care of bills. Everyone needs a job," Burke said.
