SPOKANE, Wash. -

Former Spokane Police Officer Karl Thompson's bid for a new trial has been rejected.

Defense attorneys argued before the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals that jurors overheard discussions that the City of Spokane was corrupt during deliberations, that prosecutors withheld exculpatory evidence that could have changed the defense's strategy and the district court admitted evidence of Otto Zehm's innocence at the time of trial.

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals rejected their request for a new trial.

Thompson, who is currently serving his sentence in a federal prison in Oregon, was convicted of violating Otto Zehm's rights and making false statements in the wake of Zehm's death in 2006.
