Two weeks after thieves made off with an ATM at a Spokane Valley restaurant, thieves have attempted to steal ATMs from two more Valley businesses.
Early Thursday morning a deputy responded to a burglary at the Conoco gas station at 16th and University. They found a window had been shattered and a tow rope was seen wrapped around an ATM inside the business.
The gas station's owner replayed surveillance video and investigators saw two suspects arrive in a Chrysler minivan, and backed up to the window. One suspect got out with a baseball bat, shattered the window, entered the business and hooked the tow rope to the ATM while the second suspect attached the other end to the minivan.
The thieves attempted to drive away with the ATM attached to the back of the minivan but were unsuccessful and fled the scene.
Both suspects were seen wearing hooded sweatshirts, masks and gloves.
Early Friday morning another deputy responded to a commercial burglary at the Broadway Mini Mart located at 10304 E. Broadway. The business owner responded to the scene after being told by a friend the front window had been shattered. They found that the ATM was missing from the store.
When they looked at surveillance video they saw one suspect smash the window with a baseball bat and then run into the store with a second suspect. The two individuals grabbed the ATM and dragged it out of the store.
In the Mini Mart robbery, the suspects were wearing similar clothes as the ATM theft attempt the previous night and sheriff's deputies believe both burglaries were committed by the same individuals.
The ATM thefts Thursday and Friday morning come two weeks after someone broke into Savage Land Pizza at 700 S. Dishman Rd. and stole the ATM from the premises.
