NEWPORT, Wash. -

School officials confirmed that Stratton Elementary in Newport was locked down as deputies were searching for an escaped inmate in the area.

At 3 p.m. the district got a call from Pend Oreille County Sheriff's Office they were tracking an escaped inmate and suggested the school be placed in lockdown as a precaution.

The school remained in lockdown for about an hour and a half until they received a follow-up call that the inmate had been tracked into North Idaho.
