A new ATM scam is going around town and has already hit three banks including the Numerica Credit Union branch at Wandermere.
While Numerica said their ATMs are skimming-proof they're not super glue proof and that's all crooks need to make you their next victim in the "sticky button" scam.
According to Numerica, someone super glued the cancel button sometime this week.
Now, the customer's only option is to leave their card behind while they get help, opening a window of opportunity for a thief to make off with your money or your ATM card.
So what should you do?
"I wouldn't walk away from the machine if I suspected anything like that, even if there was a bunch of angry people behind me, no way, I'm going to contact my bank and make sure everything was legit with that transaction," Spokane County Sheriff Deputy Craig Chamberlin said.
The sticky button scam has also been reported at two other banks in Spokane but, so far, there has been no evidence these sticky button crooks have gotten away with cash.
One thing is for sure though: they'll keep trying.
