NORTHPORT, Wash. -

State fire assistance has been requested to support the Deep North Fire, which is burning 10 miles north of Northport in Stevens County.

The mobilization was authorized by Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste after it was requested by Stevens County Fire District 10 Chief Mark Smith. Three wildland task forces, one 20-person hand crew and a Type 3 Incident Management Team have been ordered to support the fire fight.

The fire, which started Sunday, has grown to 600 acres overnight and is threatening homes and power lines in the area. A Level 3 evacuation has been put in place for homes in the fire's path.
