The Spokane Veterans Medical Center has been renamed in memory of Medal of Honor recipients Joe E. Mann and Bruce A. Grandstaff.
U.S. Senator Patty Murray and Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki attended the renaming ceremony in Spokane on Wednesday.
Mann, from Reardan, was awarded the nation's highest military decoration in World War II. He was killed when he smothered the blast from a hand grenade with his body.
Grandstaff, from Spokane, received the Medal of Honor for service in Vietnam. He was killed while trying to rescue his platoon from an intense firefight.
Mann's nephew Byrne Bennett was on hand for the re-naming ceremony Wednesday morning and called it an honor.
"It's a legacy and hopefully it's an inspiration to other people and soldiers and other people can use him as an example as I've done in my life," Bennett said.
