SPOKANE, Wash. -

A man who has been wanted in Spokane on rape charges since 1997 was arrested in Colorado.

U.S. Marshals arrested 37-year-old Kenneth Wayne Hutto Jr.

Hutto has been wanted since 1997 for second degree rape, after police say he forcibly raped a handicapped family member. The case was orginally investigated by the Spokane County Sheriff's Office.

The case was adopted by the Pacific Northwest Violent Offenders Task Force in 2011.

Deputy Marshals from Eastern Washington developed information indicating Hutto left Washington State and was possibly living in Crestone, Colorado. The U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force in Colorado was contacted, and with further investigation, arrested Hutto at a residence in Crestone.

He is currently waiting to be extradited back to Spokane to face his rape charges.

The Pacific Northwest Violent Offenders Task Force is a U.S. Marshals sponsored task force that includes the districts of Western Washington, Eastern Washington, Oregon and Alaska.
