SPOKANE, Wash. -

A Spokane family will have a much brighter Christmas morning thanks to 92.9 ZZU and Christmas Wish.

The Shankle family lost just about everything they owned in a fire this August that destroyed their home at 19th and Sherman on the South Hill. The fire burned so hot it spread to and damaged other homes in the area

On Monday morning, the latest Christmas Wish recipients had been chosen, the Christmas elves were busy wrapping gifts and planning for the big surprise with the help of Jesse Shankle, who was in on the surprise.

The crew then headed over to Studio Capelli, where Jesse's wife Emily works as a hairdresser. Emily was understandably overwhelmed - surrounded by her husband and two boys, and her very special friend Tia Teuben, who nominated her.

"She's been a good friend and you want to help a friend in need when tragedy strikes," Teuben explained.

Along with loads of toys for the kids, the family will also get a new washer and dryer from Fred's Appliance.

"You gave us so much … the washer and dryer is...who gives or receives a gift like that? So thank you," Emily Shankle said.

At the beginning Jesse was a little hesitant to be a Christmas Wish recipient.

"I just thought that there were people who deserved it more than us or needed it more than us," he said.

But Jesse and Emily know what this will mean for their boys Milo and Jasper.

"It will mean a great, fun Christmas with a lot of fun toys. We lost a lot of their toys that they had wanted or picked," Jesse said.
