Some Ferris upgrades ready in time for the school year
For the freshmen that enter the doors of Ferris High School on Tuesday it's going to be a brand new school. For the students coming back, they'll notice some of the changes as well as the construction that will continue through the school year.
One of those freshmen is Sydney Collins. She visited the school with her mom, Karen, on Monday.
"We came today to see if we could find out where some of her classes are," Karen Collins said.
Sydney has visited the school before and is looking forward to all the renovations.
"The gym is pretty cool...classrooms are big," said Sydney.
Students going back to school tomorrow will notice more natural light -- and smartboards in every classroom.
The auditorium is under construction still, but the new commons area has doubled in size -- so students can finally eat together.
The campus is also completely walkable from the inside. No more trekking through the snow to get to class -- and no more areas for strangers to walk up to the middle of campus. That's a feature that makes Sydney's mom much more comfortable.
"…Just knowing that we're leaving our kids in a safe place," Karen said.
Construction at Ferris is scheduled to be completed by next fall.
