SEATTLE, Wash. -

Another 3-to-5 inches of snow could be added to snow blanketing the Bellingham area Monday before the precipitation turns to the rain falling in the rest of Western Washington.

The National Weather Service says the snow also will linger Monday over the mountains and parts of Eastern Washington.

Forecasters say Washington's  weather should turn a little drier and milder by midweek.

After up to a foot of snow fell over the weekend in Whatcom County, schools are closed Monday in Bellingham, Ferndale and Lynden.

Drivers also can expect winter conditions Monday on Snoqualmie and Stevens passes and possible closures for avalanche control.
