COLFAX, Wash. -

State troopers say a driver fell asleep at the wheel, triggering a head-on collision that killed a passenger in another vehicle Friday morning near Colfax.

The Washington State Patrol reports that Douglas Hinchey, 35, was driving southbound on Highway 195 Friday morning around 9:30 when his vehicle crossed the centerline and collided with a 1993 Chrysler LeBaron driven by Gerald Wickard, 57, of Pullman.

Rodella Wickard, 60, a passenger in the car, was killed in the crash. Gerald was injured and taken to Pullman Regional Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Hinchey was also injured in the crash and was taken to Pullman Regional as well.

Following the crash investigation, the roadway was reported cleared at 2 p.m.

This is the second deadly crash on Highway 195 this week. Last Saturday, the passenger of a truck was killed when the vehicle went off the road and hit a tree approximately 12 miles south of Spokane.
