There will be added security this Bloomsday following the Boston Marathon bombings and there are things you need to know before heading down to the race.
One of the biggest changes this year will be limited access to the start of the race. That means restrictions on runner as well as spectators.
On Sunday more than 50,000 people will be running the Bloomsday course. Countless more will be watching but this year they won't be watching from the starting line.
"Kinda like when we went to give grandma a good bye at the airport. Used to do that at the gate. You don't do that at the gate anymore you do that at the TSA screening station. That's pretty much what the start area is going to be like," said Al Odenthal, board member for Bloomsday.
"Don't get on the shuttle with that gym bag because there's no place to put it when you get downtown," said Odenthal.
This includes Camelbacks and other backpack style hydration systems small hip packs are ok.
"You're getting water on the course already but something you can get in-between those water stations," said Brent Christensen with Fleet Feet.
There are exceptions however but be ready for those to undergo a quick inspection.
"Now if you're in the stroller division and you've got infants and toddlers. We're not foolish enough to think you're going to try and do three hours without a diaper bag and a snack bag because they're just not going to tolerate that," said Odenthal.
Spectators will still be able to get a good view of the finish line while law enforcement keeps an eye out from above.
"The idea being that we have very good situational awareness around the beginning and the end of the race but also along the race course," said Spokane Police Chief Frank Straub.
And like always police are asking for everyone to keep vigilant and be the extra eyes.
"If you see something say something to a race volunteer or police officer and we've got resources in the background that can address those," said Odenthal.
Of course there will be a lot more security happening that we don't see. Undercover officers will be present and security sweeps of the course will happen before the race starts. Law enforcement very confident that everything will go smoothly.
