Patients at Sacred Heart Children's Hospital received a special treat today as they decorated cookies and celebrated Halloween.
Every year, the hospital hosts a special time for the youngest patients to take a break from their daily routine and enjoy being a kid.
Jennifer Allstead, 12, was airlifted to SHMC last week after she suffered internal injuries in a car crash in the Tri-Cities. Allstead never imagined she would be spending Halloween in the hospital.
"I'm doing better," said Allstead. "My doctor said that my stomach is healing really well. So I'm doing a lot better."
Nettie Welshons, a Child Life Specialist, organized the event and said activities and celebrations can make a big difference in a patient's recovery.
"We know that a child that is happy heals faster and heals better," said Nettie Welshons. "So if we can do anything to ease their anxiety and just provide a rich experience it just makes it so much easier for them. So it relieves stress just lets them be a kid."
