SPOKANE, Wash. -

Being away from home for the holidays can be tough, but imagine being a child spending Christmas in the hospital. That's why Sacred Heart Children's Hospital goes the extra mile to spread holiday cheer.

Each year the hospital takes donated toys and places them in a room called Santa's Workshop. Young patients can stop by to grab their own present and gifts for their brothers and sisters. It's fun for the kids, and offers a little holiday help for parents.

"This is so awesome," said Gerherd Clark, whose daughter is in the hospital. "You couldn't even imagine how awesome this is."

Children this week will also get a special visit from Santa, hosted by firefighters from districts eight and nine.
