SPOKANE, Wash. -

A surprise recount for a Spokane City Council seat has turned up the same result.

In November former Republican state representative John Ahern lost his attempt to unseat incumbent Jon Snyder by about 5,700 votes.

Ahern requested a recount for one precinct of four, which accounts for about 1,600 votes, although he lost by more than three times that number.

On Monday, Spokane County Auditor Vicki Dalton said a hand recount was conducted for that precinct and the outcome was the same and Snyder will keep his city council seat.

Coincidentally, it was following a hand recount back in 2011 that it was confirmed that John Driscoll unseated Ahern from his seat in the 6th Legislative  District by a slim margin.
