The Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office has found the deadly shooting of Jacob Dorfman by Spokane Police Officer Adam Valdez on February 5 was justified.
On February 5, Dorfman led officers on a short pursuit after officers responded to a shots fired called in the area of 9th and Monroe on the South Hill. When they arrived they ordered Dorfman to drop his weapon, but he refused their commands and instead got into his vehicle and fled the scene.
With police officers trailing him, Dorfman led them on a short pursuit that ended in front of the Huckleberry’s market at 926 S. Monroe, where Dorfman crashed his vehicle and officers boxed him in with their patrol cars.
Dorfman got out of his vehicle and when officers ordered him to drop his weapon he instead pointed his pistol, a .40 caliber Glock semi-automatic handgun, at one of the officers. Officer Valdez shot and killed Dorfman.
The prosecutor’s office determined that Valdez’s use of deadly force was justified in the incident.
