SPOKANE, Wash. -

The Spokane Police Department used elements of its SWAT team to take down a suspected drug house Friday morning near the intersection of Sprague and Ralph in southeast Spokane.

Suspect Gerald Ashby was driving away from his residence when he was pulled over by investigators at the intersection of 3rd and Freya. Police then executed a search warrant at Ashby's home where detectives said they did several undercover buys.

The SWAT team was used because the investigation showed Ashby or his son used guns to protect their illegal inventory.

Ashby was arrested on a possession with intent to deliver charge.

Police say taking an OxyContin dealer off the streets drives down property crimes.

"We do our best to take that supply out and hopefully that drops the need to go out and break into cars and houses and hopefully it's a win-win for everybody," Spokane Police Lieutenant Steve Wohl said.

Both the Drug Enforcement Administration and the city county gang unit helped police develop the probable cause they needed for the search warrant.
