SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. -

You may think it's too early for this story, but pharmacists are urging people to get vaccinated for the flu as soon as possible this year.

Last year was the worst flu season since 1997 with more than 120,000 people hospitalized and 152 pediatric deaths.

This year's vaccine is a new formula and is expected to be in high demand.

"You'll definitely what to get out and get vaccinated now, because especially with last year being so serious they're expecting people to get vaccinated early," said pharmacist Elizabeth Barbour. "The vaccine might sell out and once it's gone they won't be making any more of it."

The vaccine needs two weeks to take full effect in your system, and it will protect you through the end of the flu season. Most pharmacies should have the vaccine soon if they don't already.
