OKANOGAN COUNTY, Wash. -

Okanogan County deputies say one person is dead from a shooting south of Marlott near Chiliwist Road.

Police responded to calls of a shooting in that area Thursday and found the body of a man who had been shot.

The investigation shows that the victim, Antonio Naranjo-Menchaca, 38, had just arrived in Okanogan County on Wednesday from California. The victim is the ex-brother-in-law to the shooter, identified as 31-year-old Jesus Vela-Duarte of Brewster.

According to statements, Duarte's family was afraid of Menchaca and was not sure what he was going to do. Police say Duarte had talked to Menchaca previously and told him to stay away from his family. When Duarte saw him drive by his house again he armed himself, followed him, confronted him and then witnesses say he pulled out a pistol and shot Menchaca two or three times.

Duarte then drove back home and called 911 to report the shooting. Duarte was arrested without incident and booked in the Okanogan County Jail for second-degree murder.

An autopsy on Menchaca is scheduled for Monday.
