SPRINGDALE, Wash. -

A Muslim family is fighting the Stevens County town of Springdale over the zoning for a two-story building on its property.

The town council says it's a shed, not suitable for living.

An organization founded by the family, Muslim America, is appealing under a federal law designed to protect religious groups from stringent zoning codes.

The Spokesman-Review reports they are asking for an exemption under the Islamic pillar of charity. The case is being appealed in federal court.
