Deputy United States Marshals arrested murder suspect Anthony J. Vasquez last night in Spokane.
Around 6:00 p.m. law enforcement officers received information that Vasquez was at a residence at 18100 E Alki in Spokane Valley. Officers from Spokane Police Department’s Patrol Anti-Crime Team (PACT), SWAT and K-9 teams, along with the US Marshals, set up a perimeter around the house and worked to communicate with Vasquez in an attempt to get him to come out of the home and into custody safely. Vasquez ran out of the backdoor of the residence and SPD K-9 quickly located him. He was apprehended by SPD SWAT officers after a short foot pursuit in the area around 9:30 p.m.
Vasquez had been on the run since allegedly shooting Juan Garcia in a car in the parking lot of Airport Grocery Mart on Tuesday, September 17. Garcia's girlfriend and her six-year-old son were in the car when the shooting happened. Alleged getaway driver Alejandro Manzo was arrested Thursday, September 19.
"I give a great deal of credit to the US Marshals Service, as well as the special deputy marshals who are also member of the sheriff's office and Moses Lake police," said Sheriff Tom Jones. "Their efforts, coupled with the hundreds of tips from citizens, helped get Vasquez into custody, and for that I thank everyone who worked to find Vasquez."
