SPOKANE, Wash. -

It's been a nightmare for businesses and anyone trying to get around downtown Spokane in recent months, but officials say some of the hardship should be over soon.

"Well, I mean it's kind of hard you know, I have a walker. It's not to easy to get around," said 91-year-old Lolavelle Roloff.

The ongoing downtown road construction on Monroe, Lincoln and Riverside streets hasn't made it any easier for her to run errands.

"The buses don't run in the same place. It's kind of annoying because I take the bus." said Lolavelle.

Spokane Mayor David Condon said portions of Lincoln and Monroe streets from Second to 8th Avenue will be finished in a little under two weeks.

"The conditions of our streets is one of our top priorities and that of our citizens. We have 43 projects with $74 million of projects in new work," said Mayor Condon.

Condon said Second to Main Avenue will be open for the winter, but will not officially be complete until next Spring. Some people were expecting road construction to be completed by the end of October.

"Oh, October? That is not the goal we are shooting for with regards, for instance getting base down on Lincoln and Monroe," said an official with the City of Spokane. "We have a couple weeks into November where it's very typical the asphalt, the plants will be open, so we don't see the end of October as our last opportunity for work within this season."

Riverside will be closed through October 20th from Monroe to Lincoln for intersection work.

Lolavelle said she will just have to be patient.

"Well, I guess we need it, but you know, they must have to do it, but it's an awful pain in the neck," said Lolavelle.

Officials do say most road projects should be finished before November. If you do come downtown to support local businesses during road construction use the "#RDowntown" on Twitter and post pictures.

Businesses are also offering incentives to come downtown. There is free parking after 5 p.m. in construction zones. Some businesses have "Passport to Paris" passes you can fill out and win free meals.
