Spokane Mayor David Condon will announce his selection for the city's next police chief Monday morning at 10:30 am.

The city has been without a permanent chief since Frank Straub was dismissed in September of 2015. Mayor Condon appointed longtime police officer Craig Meidl this summer, but faced immediate scrutiny because Meidl did not originally apply for the job and did not go through the same community vetting process as the other candidates.

In recent weeks, the city has brought in four candidates to meet with the community: Meidl; Yakima Police Chief Dominic Rizzi; Elk Grove, CA Police Chief Robert Lehner and John Bruce, police chief in Frisco, Texas.

Condon will announce his choice this morning as part of an announcement about the city's COPS program. Stay with kxly.com and follow us on Twitter and Facebook for details of the announcement.
