SPOKANE, Wash. -

Spokane police arrested a man for stabbing another man who was walking along the Centennial Trail on Tuesday night.

The stabbing happened just before 11 p.m. on the north back of the Spokane River.

According to police, Scott McGuire ran up behind the victim and stabbed him in the back of the neck.

The victim then grabbed his own knife and stabbed McGuire, to defend himself.

Police arrived and both men were transported to a local hospital.

Police said when McGuire is released from the hospital, he will be booked into Spokane County Jail for first-degree assault.
