A Laurel man has denied charges that he broke into a house, assaulted an elderly man and tried to set the house on fire.
The Billings Gazette reports 25-year-old Adam Scott Nelson pleaded not guilty Tuesday to aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, robbery and attempted arson.
Prosecutors say Nelson met the victim in 2011 and the man allowed Nelson and his family to live with him because they had been living in a vehicle.
Court records say the man's family felt Nelson was taking advantage of him and kicked Nelson out.
One night last December, someone broke into the man's house, beat him, took his wallet and tried to set fire to the house.
Prosecutors said the victim recognized Nelson as his attacker and the victim's blood was found on Nelson's shoes.
