DEER PARK, Wash. -

While police are still looking for one suspect involved in Saturday's fatal shooting in Deer Park, friends and neighbors are remembering the victim.

The shooting happened at an apartment on E. D Street around 9:30 pm.

Friends and neighbors describe the victim as being in his 50s to early 60s. They say he was a kind man who volunteered to shovel the sidewalks around this complex so that seniors could get around safely.

Investigators say two suspects came into the Pinecrest Manor apartment complex last night. The suspects went up to apartment 10 and shot the man who lived there.

Neighbors say the victim’s first name is Ed. His friend Edie Friedlander heard the shot, called 911, then rushed to Ed’s side.

"…I kind of laid my hand on his arm to let him know I was there to kind of comfort him," Friedlander said.

Ed was taken to Sacred Heart with a gunshot wound. He died Sunday morning.

In the subsequent manhunt for his killer, deputies found and arrested one man outside of Deer Park Middle School last night, about a block away from the scene. Deputies are still searching for the second gunman. The motive for the murder is unclear.

Ed's friends and neighbors are even more puzzled, asking why a man who'd help his neighbors out daily is now dead.

“He was a guy that everybody liked and everybody knew," said Melissa Burdg, one of Ed's friends.

“Everyone in this complex just loved him, and we're all very, very upset," Friedlander added.

The suspect who has been arrested faces 1st Degree Murder charges. He has been booked into the Spokane County Jail.
