Cheney resident Flossie Dickey has a unique claim to fame. She can say she was born when Roosevelt was president.
Teddy Roosevelt that is.
Flossie celebrated her 108th birthday Tuesday, She's already had one party and will have another one on Wednesday.
Flossie was born on February 18, 1906 and Tuesday she welcomed us to her room at the Cheney Care Center. She has two living children, ten grandchildren -- who describe her as "Spunky Monkey Bossy Flossie," 12 great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren, with the oldest of the great great grandchildren 15 years old.
She moved to Eastern Washington when she was very young, lived on a farm near the Pend Oreille River up north and got married at the age of 15 in 1920. At one point she worked at a restaurant called the Silver Bow in Spokane.
Her granddaughter said Flossie lived in a time when they used lanterns for light and the only transportation was horses.
Flossie says she has no secrets to a long life. She lived with her daughter until she was 105 when she broke her hip. She wanted to move back home after recovery but couldn't because her 84-year-old daughter got cancer and passed away.
