A photo of a Fairchild Air Force Base airman tongue-kissing a POW/MIA picture is stirring controversy across the country.
The photo was taken three years ago but went last viral on Friday and over the weekend after it was posted on several military based sites.
Stars and Stripes reports the airman is Staff Sergeant Cherish Byers, a member of the 92nd Security Forces Squadron at Fairchild. The newspaper reported she was a senior airman when the photo was taken.
The Air Force released a statement from Chief Master Sergeant James Cody, who said the service doesn't have all the details behind the photo, but it certainly is a concern; it's a concern any time someone shows disrespect for prisoners of war and those missing in action.
The Air Force launched an investigation into the photo last Friday morning, which has many veterans disgusted, shocked, and disappointed, but saying not to let one person's actions tarnish the Air Force.
Calls to Fairchild Air Force Base for comment on the photo have not been returned as of 6 p.m. Monday.
