Former NBA basketball player Craig Ehlo made his first court appearance Friday on a domestic violence charge stemming from an incident where he allegedly set fire to a pile of clothes near his home after a fight with his wife Wednesday night.
Appearing in a yellow jail suit, orange socks and no shoes, Ehlo's first appearance in court was short and to the point, lasting just six minutes.
Because he does not have a criminal history he was released on his own recognizance and ordered to stay away from his wife.
Spokane Sheriff's department says Ehlo set fire to his clothes outside his home early Thursday morning. When firefighters arrived two people were on top of Ehlo because they thought he was going to jump in the fire.
He now faces one count of reckless burning, domestic violence.
As part of Ehlo's release from custody he cannot go within two block of his South Hill home or have any contact with his wife or immediate family members. The judge also said he cannot use or possess any fire starting materials.
His next court hearing set is for August 14.
