The popularity of e-books is growing. Just ask the Spokane County Library District, which saw the number of e-book check outs increase 93-percent in the past year.

The Overdrive Digital Bookmobile is in Spokane through Tuesday to help raise awareness of e-books, which are both free and available at local libraries.

The high tech trailer is parked at the North Spokane library branch on East Hawthorne, and it teaches people how to get e-books on their electronic devices like the iPad, iPhone, Kindle and Nook.

The Spokane County Library District offers more than 8,000 e-book titles, 10,000 audio books and 1,200 song titles. All you need is an electronic device, the app, an internet connection and a library card.

"Once you have your library card you don't even have to go to the library," Jane Baker with the Spokane County Library District said.

Baker says the library checks out 15,000 e-books a month. It's free, you get the book for two weeks and then it disappears from your device so you don't have to worry about late fees. If you're not done, just check it out again.

Even with the growing popularity of e-books, Baker says library buildings are not going away.

"The library is still a community center. We have lots of classes we have meeting rooms that people rent and have meets there's a lot of meetings in our buildings so the brick and mortar buildings are still important to our community," Baker said.

If you have an electronic device and don't know how to download an e-book you can bring it to the nearest library branch; librarians are trained on all devices so they can help you.
