SPOKANE, Wash. -

A body found in the Spokane River east of downtown Thursday morning has Spokane Major Crimes detectives working to determine whether the death was the result of an accident or homicide.

Two fishermen found the body around 11:30 Thursday morning, near the Trent Bridge across from Gonzaga University's baseball field.

Detectives say the body was in about 18 feet of water.

Shortly after the discovery the dive team searched the river downstream toward Riverfront Park.

As for the manner of death, all police would say was that this is a suspicious death, and provided no further details. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
