Bail was set at $250,000 for a 32-year-old Billings man charged with breaking into a house and beating two retired nuns.
The Billings Gazette reports Christopher Sam Pine made an initial appearance in Yellowstone County Justice Court Monday on two counts of felony aggravated burglary and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
The charges allege Pine broke into a house early on Aug. 14, assaulted two elderly nuns and took items from their house, including a credit card.
Court records say an assailant beat 79-year-old Sister Clara Scherr and repeatedly stomped on her face and head.
Charging documents say 90-year-old Sister Mary Vincentia Maronick started praying during the attack and an assailant responded: "God won't help you tonight."
A prosecutor says more charges are pending.
