SPOKANE, Wash. -

The Spokane County Sheriff's Office is investigating the discovery of a male body in the Spokane River near the Minnehaha climbing rocks Friday afternoon.

Spokane County Sheriff's Deputy Craig Chamberlin said the body was discovered by people who were walking along the Centennial Trail around 3 p.m. Deputies as well as the dive team responded. The dive team went out into the river and recovered the body from where it was found approximately 20 feet offshore.

The body is of a male, not a child and there were no obvious signs of trauma, Chamberlin added.

The body has been turned over to the medical examiner for an autopsy to determine the person's identity and cause of death. The autopsy will determine how the investigation into the person's death will proceed, Chamberlin said.
