SPOKANE, Wash. -

With the holiday season knocking on our door, local retailers are getting ready for an increase in business with some stores already posting ‘Help Wanted’ signs.

Halloween is over a month away, Thanksgiving is two months away, yet employees at Target are already stocking for Christmas.

“Once Halloween starts we are pretty busy through the end of the year," said Adam Tait, an executive team lead at Target’s North Spokane store.

For job seekers that's good news. Tait said every year the store gets a whole lot of product for the holiday season which means they need a lot more hands on deck. Seasonal hiring for 15-20 additional staffers starts at the end of October.

“It’s a little bit later than we usually do but kinda based on the business needs. That's what we are looking at this year," Tait said.

Next door at Best Buy the store manager also says they'll hire around 15 to 20 people and are hiring right now. At Kmart on Sprague Avenue they’re looking to hire 25 people. Nationally Toys R Us will hire 45,000 people with 15 percent of applicants staying on after the holidays. Keep in mind many of these stores take applications online and you can also call ahead to see if the location has an in store kiosk for applicants.

“More than anything else we're looking for people who can relate well to guests and make it an amazing experience for our guests," Tait said.

While most positions end in early January applicants looking for full time work should consider this a trial run.

“The holiday season is an opportunity to take a look at, you know, hiring new people and bringing them on our team on a full time basis," said Tait.

No matter where you apply extending that part time job can be an option in the new year with the right outlook.

“More than anything else we're looking for people who can relate well to guests and make it an amazing experience for our guests," Tait said.
