Alleged bank robber Scott Ruziecki sat down Wednesday night to share his story with KXLY.
Police arrested him on Monday after a standoff at 6th and Arthur.
They say he robbed three banks in the last two weeks, but Ruziecki only admits to one. He says he robbed the U.S. Bank branch at Argonne and Trent because he was helping a friend to pay bills and got away with over a thousand dollars.
"The economy has hit everyone really hard and the resources we normally turn to to get help like this, they're not available," Ruziecki said. "You can only work so hard, earn so much money, go so many places and the bank, um, what we needed was the money and the bank had it."
Ruziecki also said he was high on meth during the robbery and took time to mentally prepare himself before going inside, receiving tips and pointers from convicted bank robber Chuck West.
Ruziecki's bond is set at $200,000.
West also faces charges for the robberies.
