The number one ranking for the Gonzaga men's basketball team is bringing more than just excitement to Spokane, it's bringing money.
Business has doubled from the Zag's success at the Zag Shop on North Ruby.
"Are you here for the number one tees? Alright!" Ken Roughton said to one customer.+
Roughton is the manager at the store. He says this past week has been the busiest of the year. The "number one t-shirt" is the number one selling t-shirt for $22.
"We brought in 1,000 t-shirts (Saturday) and as you saw on the table there's not very many left."
Roughton says they sell about 500 a day. On Saturday, about 20 people waited outside the store for a shipment to arrive.
"It's completely insane!" he said with a laugh.
"I've bought five of them this will be my sixth one," '77 GU Alum Joe MkKinnon said.
MkKinnon bought one for himself and others for relatives around the country.
"I have a cousin back in Chicago, she's raving about it," he said. "I have a cousin in Oregon I talked with last week, everybody's talking about it."
Bars are benefitting from the Bulldogs too. The number of customers at Fast Eddie's jumps by four or five times when Gonzaga is playing.
"They've been making this run all year long, and I think more and more people are getting involved with it," Manager Mitch Holda said.
The bar and others making money are hoping for a deep run in the NCAA tournament for the Zags, for their businesses almost as much as for themselves.
Gonzaga will take on St. Mary's in the WCC championship Monday at 6 p.m.
