With a unanimous vote from the city council, Spokane's Police Department officially has a new leader.
On Monday night, the city council confirmed Frank Straub as the director of law enforcement for the city.
At the meeting, several people from the city of Spokane spoke on Straub's behalf, including Mayor David Condon.
Straub attended the meeting and said although the department has faced some challenges, he's excited to be on board.
There were also several citizens from Indianapolis who made the trek to Spokane to speak highly of him.
"Frank is a very sober and serious guy. He got to work and he made a difference," said another.
Straub will have to complete training and receive certification before he's able to receive the title of police chief. Straub will meet with the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission Tuesday to discuss the steps needed to get the title.
Straub's first day on the job will be Oct. 1.
