Eastbound I-90 was briefly shut down Friday afternoon at the Altamont exit after authorities discovered a sparkler bomb along the side of the road.
The device was discovered about 1 p.m. on the ramp leading up to the pedestrian overpass near 3rd and Regal and called police.
As a precaution, all traffic was diverted off the freeway and onto 3rd Avenue while the Spokane bomb squad removed the device.
Neighbors say they're not surprised by the bomb; they say this area is a hot spot for crime and the overpass cultivates crime ranging from drugs to fights and prostitution.
None of the neighbors wanted to be interviewed on camera out of fear for their safety.
They did hope that this incident will lead to more police patrols in their neighborhood.
The bomb squad removed the device took it to Fairchild AFB where it was safely disrupted.
